Panopto
Panopto is lecture capture software used by faculty members for online learning purposes.
Where Can I Use It?
Bay College currently has HUB 832 built for Panopto, although the IT dept can install the software on any computer on campus if this room is unavailable. Users can also view available media or download and install Panopto on personal devices at:
Bay's Panopto.
Getting Started: HUB 832
When you first enter 832 make sure all of the equipment is powered on including the TV, Microphone, PC and Windows Surface. The remotes for the Samsung TV and Camera should both be on the podium and are color labeled (blue for Samsung, green for camera). You can also use the Rocoptz application in the shortcuts folder on the desktop to control the camera if you don't want to use the remote.
You will notice that the podium has a Windows Surface as well which can be used in conjunction with the Lenovo PC and Panopto. If you have another device you want to connect with you can also use the HDMI plug on the table. In order to select the plug you will need to use the Extron on that is on top of the Lenovo PC. The Surface Pro is set to the number 1 button and the HDMI cable is set to number 2.
Once the PC is turned on and you are signed in you will need to open Panopto by clicking the shortcut link for it on the desktop. Once selected the default window will bring up an Blackboard sign in. Please note that unless you have been given creator access from our Online Learning department you will not be able to utilize Panopto. If need access please contact:

Joseph has also created a training video on how to utilize the software:
Using the Camera
While you can use both the Rocoptz application or remote to control the camera it is important to note the preset feature on the physical remote. Using presets will allow you to move the camera to selected views ranging from the podium, table or the green screen/whiteboard. When using the presets make sure you don't accidentally hit the camera button 2 or 3 otherwise, it won't work again until you select the camera 1.
Software Limitations
In terms of software it is important to know the limitations that it comes with:
- You cannot use Skype and Panopto at the same time
- Any audio from media will only show from the Lenovo PC
- If you want to draw on a Powerpoint or other external media you will have to plug it into the Surface instead of the PC
- If you don't use Panopto to upload a Powerpoint you won't have time stamps in the recorded presentation
- All media that is recorded is stored on the local PC. After you have uploaded your recording and confirm that is processed, you will have to delete the local file. If you don't the PC storage space will run out and effect the performance for everyone using it
