Room Types

There are several types of rooms around campus with the ability to do video conferencing using the Zoom application. Each type has a set of characteristics that make them unique. Note that the characteristics listed here are generalizations and some variation can occur.

Zoom Room

Note that when we say "Zoom Room" we mean "Zoom Room" with a "™" trademark symbol. Zoom Room is the actual product name for a Zoom system featuring a Zoom Room Controller (the ThinkSmart Hub tablet) and NOT just a room with Zoom installed. It is a system composed of many parts that create a superior conferencing experience.

  • Smart Podium w/ Computer
  • Front & Rear facing projectors (typically)
  • Front & Rear projection screens (typically)
  • Lenovo ThinkSmart Hub (Zoom Room Controller)
  • Front & Rear cameras
  • Mics (in the ceiling)
  • Speakers (wall mounted)
  • Zoom meetings hosted from the ThinkSmart Hub.

Lecture Capture Rooms

These are the rooms many of you may think of when you think of video conferencing classrooms. They have much of the same A/V equipment as a Zoom Room but don't feature a Zoom Room Controller.

  • Smart Podium w/ Computer
  • Front facing projector, Rear facing projector, or both
  • Projection screens matching the number and orientation of the projectors
  • Front facing camera, Rear facing camera, or both
  • Mics (in the ceiling)
  • Speakers (wall mounted)
  • Zoom meetings hosted from the Smart Podium.

Conference Rooms

These are smaller video conferencing spaces around campus designed for meetings of smaller groups. Maximum size of group varies by room size.

  • TV (wall mounted or on cart) w/ connected computer
  • Camera (HuddleCam or Webcam)
  • Mics (optional; often relies on camera mic)
  • Speakers (optional; sound often emanates from TV)
  • Zoom meetings hosted from TV/computer

Standard Classroom

This is every classroom on campus that does not fall into another category.

  • Smart Podium w/ computer and speakers
  • Front facing projector
  • Projection Screen
  • Zoom meeting hosted from Smart Podium. Note: the only camera/mic present is likely the one built into the monitor.

Event Spaces

This covers the two main A/V and video conferencing spaces on campus: the Besse Theater and the Bay Conference Rooms (952/A/B/C).

  • Flexible spaces with a range of A/V options.
  • Bay Rooms can be used as three smaller rooms, one large room, or some combination thereof.
  • 952A/B/C have superior sound systems including wireless microphones but no permanent camera.
  • See Campus Events Technician for options, 906-217-4110.

Other

These rooms don't fit any of the categories above. Each is unique for one reason or another.

HUB 832

This is the lecture capture room. Mostly setup like a Conference Room but has a SmartPodium and a small table.

  • Smart Podium w/ computer
  • TV mounted on wall
  • HuddleCam
  • Condenser Mic on a stand
  • Zoom meeting hosted from SmartPodium

Events TV Cart

This is a mobile TV mounted on a rolling stand with a computer and webcam.

  • TV mounted on rolling stand
  • Webcam with mic
  • Connected computer w/ wireless keyboard and mouse
  • Zoom meeting hosted from computer

Rooms without technology

Some classrooms or labs are just that - classrooms and labs with no A/V or video conferencing equipment at all.

  • BHAT 400
  • BHAT 414
  • BHAT 413A
  • CB 200A
  • CB 200E
  • CB 230
