How do you know if an email is spam?

Please check the following things to determine if an email is spam or legitimate. If you have questions, send an email or call. When emailing, if you're including the email in question, please do so as an attachment.

External Message header

Mail sent from a non-Bay College email address to a Bay College email address will have a header indicating it is an External Message, as seen below. Be very wary of attachments and links in external messages and be sure to check the other indicators even if you believe it to be a legitimate message.
External Message: Use caution when opening links or attachments.

General Indicators

Check the 'From:' line and make sure it is coming from Bay College. Bay College will never ask you for your password, or account information. Before you click on links, hover over them with the mouse to see where they go.

What do I do if I get spam email?

  • Never click any links or reply to the email.
  • Flag the email as junk or delete the email.

What should I do if I clicked the link or replied to a spam email?

If you have clicked a link or replied to an email with your personal information, you should reset your password immediately. See Changing my Bay College password for ways to change your password.
