Setting Up Lightroom
01) Left click the Windows Key.
02) Type in \\stusrv\courseshares. The search bar will automatically appear. Press enter and you should enter this area:
03) While the above example Courseshares folder is empty, your CourseShares folder should have your course name (e.g. ARTS-117-01-20). Double click on the course name and then double click your name. This brings you to the root of your CourseShares folder. You can edit the root of the CourseShares folder; you can create folders, add photos, and change the names of the photos.
04) As an example, below is the Handouts folder that Shelly Danielson created at the root of the ARTS-117-01-20 folder. The Danielson Lightroom Photos is where the Adobe Lightroom photos will be stored.
05) Next, left click on the Windows Start Key.
06) On the Start Menu that appears, click on the down arrow near the bottom left of the screen:
07) This will bring up the Apps menu. Right click on Adobe Lightroom and click Pin to Start. This will make it easier to find:
08) Notice that Lightroom is now on the Start Menu:
09) Left click on Lightroom to open it. Below is the informational message that pops up when you first open Lightroom. You must create the catalog locally. Left click OK on the message:
10) On the window that pops up, click on Create a New Catalog:
11) On the window that appears, left click on the C:\ drive on the left menu:
[[file:Lightroom_C_Drive.PNG]|alt=In the window that appears from there, click on the C:\ drive on the left most menu in the narrow column.]
12) Then double click on the Users folder:
13) Double left click on your username (the author's is ben.reath):
14) Left click New Folder:
15) Name the new folder Lightroom:
16) Double click into Lightroom and create the Lightroom catalog. The author's is Ben's Lightroom:
17) Once Lightroom is open, a screen will appear asking to use the Cloud Features. Turn that off and then click Continue:
18) An introductory movie to Lightroom will start. Press play and then click the close button:
19) Next, we will import some photos from a device to the CourseShares folder (or, in the author's case, since the author is not a student, the local C:\ drive, but the process is close to identical). Click on the Import button on the lower left hand corner:
20) Then select the source of the photos that you want to import (usually a Drive or Device Name) by left clicking the on the source device and then selecting the individual photos that you want to import. Notice that I unchecked the fourth picture; unchecking means that the picture will not be imported:
21) Left click the Move button:
22) Change the destination to the CourseShares Lightroom folder that you created. To do so, first left click on the folder near the top left of the Lightroom window and then Other Destination:
23) Then navigate to the CourseShares folder (\\stusrv\Courseshares\[coursename]).
24) Then left click on the Import button:
25) Please note that only the four selected pictures were imported:
26) You have imported your first photos into Lightroom.
