Setting Up Lightroom

01) Left click the Windows Key.

Left click the Windows Key in the bottom left corner of the screen.

02) Type in \\stusrv\courseshares. The search bar will automatically appear. Press enter and you should enter this area:

Type in \\stusrv\courseshares and the search bar will appear. Press enter and you will be in your courseshares folder within file explorer. It will contain a folder with the name of your courses

03) While the above example Courseshares folder is empty, your CourseShares folder should have your course name (e.g. ARTS-117-01-20). Double click on the course name and then double click your name. This brings you to the root of your CourseShares folder. You can edit the root of the CourseShares folder; you can create folders, add photos, and change the names of the photos.

04) As an example, below is the Handouts folder that Shelly Danielson created at the root of the ARTS-117-01-20 folder. The Danielson Lightroom Photos is where the Adobe Lightroom photos will be stored.

05) Next, left click on the Windows Start Key.

Left click on the Windows Start Key in the lower left hand corner of the screen.

06) On the Start Menu that appears, click on the down arrow near the bottom left of the screen:

Click on the downward arrow near the bottom left of the screen.

07) This will bring up the Apps menu. Right click on Adobe Lightroom and click Pin to Start. This will make it easier to find:

The Apps menu is based on alphabetical order so Adobe Lightroom will be near the top. Right click the icon for it and click Pin to Start.

08) Notice that Lightroom is now on the Start Menu:

09) Left click on Lightroom to open it. Below is the informational message that pops up when you first open Lightroom. You must create the catalog locally. Left click OK on the message:

Left click OK on the warning box that comes up. This just lets you know the catalog must be created locally.

10) On the window that pops up, click on Create a New Catalog:

Click Create a New Catalog on the bottom of the window that pops up.

11) On the window that appears, left click on the C:\ drive on the left menu:

12) Then double click on the Users folder:

From there several folders will populate in the main area. Double click on users.

13) Double left click on your username (the author's is ben.reath):

14) Left click New Folder:

Click on New Folder in the upper gray bar to the left.

15) Name the new folder Lightroom:

This will automatically prompt you to name the folder. Name it Lightroom.

16) Double click into Lightroom and create the Lightroom catalog. The author's is Ben's Lightroom:

17) Once Lightroom is open, a screen will appear asking to use the Cloud Features. Turn that off and then click Continue:

Once Lightroom is opened, you will be asked to use Cloud Features. Turn it off or say no, then click Continue.

18) An introductory movie to Lightroom will start. Press play and then click the close button:

You can close the movie by hitting the X in the upper right hand corner

19) Next, we will import some photos from a device to the CourseShares folder (or, in the author's case, since the author is not a student, the local C:\ drive, but the process is close to identical). Click on the Import button on the lower left hand corner:

Click the Import button in the lower left hand corner of the screen.

20) Then select the source of the photos that you want to import (usually a Drive or Device Name) by left clicking the on the source device and then selecting the individual photos that you want to import. Notice that I unchecked the fourth picture; unchecking means that the picture will not be imported:

Select the source you want to import from by clicking the device name and selecting individual photos to import. If a photo is checked, it will be imported. If a photo is unchecked, it will NOT be imported.

21) Left click the Move button:

Click the Move button at the top near the left side of the page.

22) Change the destination to the CourseShares Lightroom folder that you created. To do so, first left click on the folder near the top left of the Lightroom window and then Other Destination:

Left clcik the folder icon near the top left of the Lightroom window and go to Other Destination near the bottom of the drop down menu that appears.

23) Then navigate to the CourseShares folder (\\stusrv\Courseshares\[coursename]).

24) Then left click on the Import button:

Click the Import button located near the bottom right of the screen.

25) Please note that only the four selected pictures were imported:

Only the selected pictures were imported. They are in the catalog now.

26) You have imported your first photos into Lightroom.
